TU Graz participated in a workshop and presented the paper “XL-MIMO Channel Modeling and Prediction for Wireless Power Transfer“.

The theme of this year’s IEEE Global Communications Conference 2022 was “Accelerating the Digital Transformation through Smart Communications”. The REINDEER team of EAB, LIU, and KU Leuven participated at this conference. (Link to Event-Program)

The Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers 2022 was an opportunity to discuss further progress on the REINDEER project with LIU and TU Graz presenting part of their most recent research developments.

TU Graz participated at the IEEE Synthetic Aperture Standardization Committee (SASC) with a contribution on “Synthetic Aperture Channel Sounding for Wireless Power Transfer”.

Researchers from the TU Graz REINDEER team joined the annual interdisciplinary science day “TU Graz – Science for Future” to demonstrate how they are stepping up to meet societal challenges in with innovative technologies and helping to shape our future.

At the Joint Workshop COST INTERACT + 6G JIC Huawei-iTEAM on ”Enabling Technologies for 6G” TU Graz presented through an invited talk work on 6G wireless networks beyond communications: Positioning, sensing, and power transfer.

The summer school co-organised by Erik G. Larsson (LIU) and supported through technical lectures by LIU, KU Leuven, ULUND, TU Graz provided a comprehensive roadmap about fundamental theory, emerging applications, and possible enabling technologies for 6G.

Presentation of paper: Dynamic Federations for 6G Cell-Free Networking: Concepts and Terminology by KU Leuven and ULUND.

LIU gave a presentation on “Physical layer abstraction model for RadioWeaves”.

KU Leuven attended the conference presented “REINDEER: REsilient INteractive applications through hyper Diversity in Energy Efficient RadioWeaves technology”, a testbed paper “Techtile – Open 6G R&D Testbed for Communication, Positioning, Sensing, WPT and Federated Learning” and was part of the The 6G workshop series by Hexa-X.

Presentation of a paper on Grant-Free Random Access in Massive MIMO for Static Low-Power IoT Nodes Symposium on Information Theory and Signal Processing in the Benelux (SITB 2022) by KU Leuven.

Under the theme “Intelligent Connectivity for Smart World” the vision of the ICC2022 was to discuss important future communication issues, share ideas and information, and accelerate innovation. The REINDEER team was strongly represented during the conference with 5 partners (KU Leuven, TU Graz, LIU, ULUND, EAB), >5 papers on results of REINDEER and related work, 1 co-organized workshop, and taking responsibilities in the (TPC) Technical Program Committee and session chairing. They discussed the progress on the REINDEER project in regard to wireless power transfer and MIMO processing opportunities.

– Uplink D-MIMO with Decentralized Subset Combining (EAB, LIU)

– Energy-Efficient Power Allocation for an Underlay Spectrum Sharing Cell-Free Massive MIMO Network (LIU)

Further, ULUND and KU Leuven organized a workshop on “Synergies of sensing, communication, and localization towards 6G”.

REINDEER presented in cooperation with the ‘Digital Power China’ European Research consortium a 5G webinar for EU embassies in China, consulates and officials in Brussels.

TU Graz and ULUND provided inputs to the COST action on “Elements of Channel Models for RadioWeaves”.

Liesbet Van der Perre (KU Leuven) and Juan Francisco Esteban Rivas (Telefonica) presented REINDEER at this workshop. The workshop was organised by the European 6G Flagship project Hexa-X together with other ICT-52 6G projects.

The 25th International ITG Workshop on Smart Antennas (WSA 2021) provided a forum for presenting and discussing research results on smart antennas, spanned theoretical analyses as well as technical and implementation aspects, in modern wireless communications. The objective of this event was to continue, accelerate, and broaden the momentum which has been gained through a series of ITG workshops which started in 1996.

The Asilomar Conference on Signals, Systems, and Computers is a yearly Conference held on the Asilomar Grounds in Pacific Grove, CA, USA. The IEEE Signal Processing Society was a technical co-sponsor. It provided a forum for presenting recent and novel work in various areas of theoretical and applied signal processing.

The 2021 theme of the NYU WIRELESS inaugural workshop was Re-Inventing the Physical Layer. The intent of workshop was to bring together foremost wireless researchers for a free exchange of ideas. Liesbet Van der Perre (KU Leuven) and Erik G. Larsson (LIU) representing the REINDEER project supported the event as co-organisers and panel members.

The scope addressed in the course is line-spectral estimation using an array of sensors. Line spectral estimation is a fundamental task that is encountered in many scientific and technical disciplines. Examples include direction of arrival estimation using sensor arrays, bearing and range estimation in synthetic aperture radar, channel estimation in wireless communications, monitoring of seismic activity, and simulation of atomic systems in molecular dynamics. The course aimed at initiating the attendees into the most relevant and widely used techniques for line spectral estimation, such as beamforming, MUSIC, ESPRIT, maximum-likelihood estimation, and variational mean field.

The quest for future connected environments: the potential of RadioWeaves technology was presented by Liesbet van der Perre (KU Leuven)  as part of the One World Signal Processing Seminar Series. The talk is available on YouTube.

The 2021 IEEE International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE PIMRC 2021) brought together global experts to the esteemed scientific and technical forum dedicated to diverse facets of wireless communications.

The 6GWFF was a single track workshop emphasizing the challenges arising from emerging demands and use cases within the realm of wireless networking in the context of post 5G networks.

The Workshop consisted of two sessions. The first one provided information about the SNS proposal, the Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA), as produced by NetworldEurope and key candidate areas that could be considered for the first Work Programme. The second session included a panel discussion with key stakeholders. They provided their views about challenges and opportunities under the SNS Partnership. The panel served as an open and interactive forum for discussion with the participants. Liesbet Van der Perre (KU Leuven) – REINDEER’s Technology Leader – participated in this session.

Technologies exploited new spatial and spectral dimensions for new applications in 5G, and beyond.

In this webinar, the TECHNIKON/Austria, gave an introduction to financial rules of the Horizon 2020 programme. This webinar provided guidance for the day-to-day bookkeeping as well as the periodic and financial reports of our H2020 projects REINDEER, REALHOLO, EXFILES and MGOV4EU. TECHNIKON as the coordinator, gave an overview of the following topics: Payment overview , Person Months (PMs) and time records, Interim Management Reporting & Deliverables , Reporting to the Commission and Project costs.

The webinar allowed to assess for the first time the various industry views towards a 6G vision for Europe and detailed the technologies potentially underpining the vision. These were presented by the nine new Smart Connectivity beyond 5G projects from the 5G Public Private partnership (5G-PPP). These projects mostly started in January 2021 and are addressing key advances beyond 5G towards 6G.

Joint Communications and Sensing (JC&S) was the subject of rapidly growing interest in the research community. This symposium was focused on the different system and implementation aspects of this promising new approach, bringing together academic and industrial experts from both the radar and communications research communities.
