The REINDEER project team was delighted to participate in the 25th IEEE International Workshop on Signal Processing Advances in Wireless Communications (SPAWC), held on September 10th – 13th in Lucca, a region steeped in the history of wireless communication. SPAWC, the flagship event of the IEEE Signal Processing Society, attracts top researchers from academia and industry to discuss advancements in signal processing, wireless communications, and optimization.
A key highlight for the REINDEER team was Ahmet Kaplan from Linköpings Universitet, being awarded the Best Student Paper Award for his outstanding contribution titled “Reducing Dynamic Range in Bistatic Backscatter Communication via Beamforming Design.” Co-authored with Diana P. M. Osorio and Erik G. Larsson, the paper focuses on backscatter communication (BC) as a sustainable solution for IoT networks, addressing round-trip path loss and direct link interference (DLI) in bistatic systems. It proposes a novel beamforming design for multiple antenna systems to mitigate DLI and improve power toward the backscatter device (BD), with a detector design and performance evaluation showing its superiority over existing methods. The full paper will soon be available for those interested in exploring this cutting-edge research further.
The REINDEER team is proud of Ahmet’s achievement and looks forward to continuing its contributions to cutting-edge research in the field of wireless communications.
